White Fillings
Fillings are tooth-coloured composite material used to restore the original strength, health and natural appearance of decayed teeth. Teeth that are decayed, broken or weak require fillings to build the tooth strength by filling the cavities. The benefit of our fillings is the composite material is matched to the colour of the natural tooth and provides a more aesthetic look as oppose to the old traditional silver amalgam fillings. Not only are tooth coloured restorations preferred for cosmetic reasons but they are also more susceptible to breaking since they are easily moulded and bond well to the tooth. Tooth coloured fillings are also a safer option to silver amalgam fillings as they are mercury-free and don’t contract and expand as silver amalgam fillings do which cause the tooth to push apart and thus weaken the tooth.
The treatment begins with a thorough assessment of your teeth. The dentist then fills any cavities with the composite resin, hardening each layer with a specialised light and then shaping it to fit the tooth. The filling is then polished and the procedure usually completed within the hour.
